When someone is diagnosed with a chronic or life threatening illness, medical professionals are limited in what they can offer. In such life situations, it's not unusual to feel abandoned and hopeless.
If you are a loved one is suffering with a chronic health problem like arthritis, fybromyalgia, or migrains, you know what I mean.
That's why I started offering Reiki to my clients who suffer with chronic pain problems.
Reiki is an non-invasive stress management technique that promotes relaxation and healing to the body, mind, and spirit. Reiki is believed to have been around since ancient times. In fact, many people believe that Reiki originated from the healing system that Jesus used.
Reiki works in conjunction with all forms of medical and psychological care, including drugs, surgery, physical therapy, chemotherapy, psychotherapy or any method of alternative care and will improve the results.
As a complementary therapy, Reiki is not a substitute for medical or psychological care; and patients receiving Reiki are always urged to consult, receive treatment, and follow their doctor's advice.
While Reiki is used to help individuals suffering with pain or chronic illness, Reiki can also be used by all people seeking a method to relieve everyday stress. It's beneificial to adults, children, and even pets. Reiki is truely amazing.
Reiki as we know it today came from Japan, and Dr. Makao Usui is credited with rediscovering this powerful healing method during a 21 day fast on Mr. Kurana. He began teaching it in the 1920's with Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, and It was brought to the west by Hawayo Takato who was born in Hawii from Japanese parents.
Reiki (pronounced Ray key) is a combination of two Japanese wordsrei and ki meaning universal life energy. During a Reiki healing session, the practioner serves as a vessel for this life energy which flows through his hands to those parts of the person receiving the treatment.
Reiki is presently being used in many major hospitals and cancer centers throughout the world and also by many certified practioners in private practice.
You will be asked to lay down on a massage table, couch, or bed while remaining fully clothed, except for shoes. You may also be asked to remove any jewelry prior to the session, so consider leaving these at home.
During the Reiki session the practitioner places his hands on or over different parts of your body. Some practionioners follow a predetermined sequence of hand placements, allowing their hands to rest on a position for 2 to 5 minutes before moving on to the next. The practitioner may also freely move his hands in no particular order to those areas that he feel needs Reiki healing energy the most.
The whole treatment usually last between 45 and 90 minutes.
Receiving a reiki treatment is a wonderful, personal experience. While everyone is different, the most common experience is a feeling of deep relaxation. Some people become so relaxed, they may actually drift to sleep during the session. Others report having visions or seeing colors or lights. Others report floating out of body and other mystical experiences.
Regardless of the experience, a reiki treatment helps resolve feelings of stress and worry, as well as energize and help rejuvenate the body, mind, and spirit. It encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feellings and fosters a sense of peace and well being.
Reiki can never cause you harm and always works to bring about positive changes.
However, sometimes a person can become emotional during a Reiki treatment as past hurts and traumas are released. Somtimes a person may also experience mild stomach discomfort or experience a headache as toxins that have been stored and the body are released from one's systems.
